Australian Summer Time and Winter Time
Australia is one of the few countries in the world that uses daylight saving time. Daylight saving time means setting the clocks forward one hour in the summer to make full use of daylight and save electricity for lighting. Winter time means setting the clocks back one hour in the winter to restore normal time.
Australia's daylight saving time starts at 2 a.m. on the first Sunday in October and ends at 3 a.m. on the first Sunday in April. Australia's winter time starts at 3 a.m. on the first Sunday in April and ends at 2 a.m. on the first Sunday in October.
Australia's summer time and winter time are implemented as follows:
- The Australian Capital Territory, New South Wales, Victoria, South Australia and Tasmania all observe daylight saving time.
- Western Australia, the Northern Territory and Queensland do not observe daylight saving time.
Therefore, during summer time, the time difference between Australia and mainland China is 2 hours, and the time difference between Australia and Hong Kong, Macau and Taiwan is 1 hour. During winter time, the time difference between Australia and mainland China is 3 hours, and the time difference between Australia and Hong Kong, Macau and Taiwan is 2 hours.
