  • Study for four months.

How many times can I apply for a WHV (subclass 462) Working Holiday visa?

If selected to apply for a first Working Holiday (subclass 462) visa, applicants can only apply for this visa once.

No. You do not need to attend an interview when applying for a Working Holiday (subclass 462) visa. However, a visa officer may contact you to request further information.

Opening up the Working Holiday Visa (Subclass 462) to China

Visa pre-application process for Chinese passport holders

If you hold a People's Republic of China passport and would like to apply for your first Work and Holiday (subclass 462) visa in the 2023-2024 program year, you will need to participate in the visa pre-application process. 

You can only apply for this visa online during this program year if you meet the following conditions:

  • Meet application requirements (e.g. apply for a visa within the prescribed period, meet passport and age requirements)

  • Create ImmiAccount (If you don't have an account yet)
  • Go to the 'New Application' page
  • Click on 'Visa pre-assessment registration'
  • Select the 'Registration – Work and Holiday Visa (462)' form

When completing the form, you will need to provide personal information such as your name, birthday, passport number and ID number.

If you are between 18 and 30 years old (inclusive), you may only submit one registration.

Can I save a draft of my registration form before submitting it?

Yes, you can save a draft registration form in ImmiAccount before submitting it.

Please note that a draft registration form will only be entered into the registration pool once it has been submitted and has the 'Received' status.

How can I find out the status of my registration?

Once you have submitted your registration, you can check the form in ImmiAccount to confirm the status of your registration.  

If the status of the registration is 'Received' (as shown below), this means that the registration form has been received by the Department of Home Affairs and has not yet been randomly selected.

Once the selection process begins, the status of the randomly selected registration forms will change from 'Received' to 'Selected'.

Can I submit my registration using a paper form?

No. You can only submit your registration through the 'Registration – Work and Holiday Visa (462)' online form found in ImmiAccount.

Do I need to pay a fee to submit my registration?

There is no fee to submit a Work and Holiday visa registration.

When can I submit my first Work and Holiday visa registration?

The registration period for the 2023-2024 program year begins on July 1, 2023 and ends on January 31, 2024.

You can submit your registration during this time.

How many registrations can I submit?

You may only submit one registration per program year.

When submitting your registration online, you can only use relevant personal information, such as your ID number and passport information, once.

If you submit a registration during the current program year, that registration will remain in the selection pool until April 30, 2024, when the selection period for the current program year will end.

What happens after I submit my registration form?

  • If you are selected to apply for a visa, the Department of Home Affairs will check that the information on your visa application matches the information on your registration.

How long is my registered information valid?

Applicant registrations will remain in the selection pool until April 30, 2024. All registrations that were not selected for the program year will expire on that date.

If your registration is randomly selected, you will only have one chance to apply for your first Work and Holiday visa and must submit your visa application within the deadline specified in the notification of your registration selection.

If a visa is not applied for within the specified time, the registered information will expire and the applicant will not be able to apply for the visa in the current project year, nor will he be able to register the information again.

If I am not selected for this program year, can I register again for the next program year?

  • You can apply online for your first Work and Holiday visa within three months of your selection date.

Please be sure to provide accurate and up-to-date personal information and check the registration status.

I have not been selected. Can I register again?

Each person can only register for this visa once per program year. If selected, you can only apply once within the specified period.

When does the Department of Home Affairs start taking applications for registration?

Please pay attention to the relevant information on this website regarding the start and end time of the first round of selection.

  • There will be multiple rounds of selection for registration applications each program year (a program year begins on July 1 and ends on June 30).
  • The registration period ends on January 31, 2024. At least one selection round will be conducted after the deadline to ensure that all registrants have a chance to participate in the random selection.

  • How applicants can contact the Department of Home Affairs for information about their visa application, if necessary.

If selected, applicants may submit only one visa application and must meet the age requirement at the time of submitting their application.

If you do not submit your application within the prescribed period, you will not be able to apply for the visa in the current program year. You will need to re-register and apply for your first Work and Holiday visa in the next program year.

What if I am selected but I turn 31 before I submit my visa application?

If you are notified that your registration has been selected, you must lodge your application online within the deadline specified in the notification and must lodge your application online before your 31st birthday (AEST).

Please note:

  • The deadline for lodging a visa application is midnight Australian Eastern Time on the day before your 31st birthday.
  • If an applicant turns 31 years old before submitting the online application, they will not be able to submit an application.
